Rag to Ruffles

What do you do when you replace your husband's holey undershirts? Well, you could use them as rags around the house, sure. But what if you don't clean very often? (What? Don't judge me) I have a better idea!

I used the body of one of my old white shirts - not holey, just a little big now - as the base for this skirt, and attached a length of elastic for the waistband. Then I got started to work on the undershirts. I cut them into strips about 6 inches wide, avoiding holes and stains as best I could. Then I just started gathering, pinning, and sewing them around the skirt. Each strip is probably about 1.5 times the circumference of the skirt for a nice ruffle. If the strip I was working with wasn't long enough, I just overlapped another strip and kept going. When all was said and done, I had used the one shirt of mine and four of my husband's.

I wore it on its own today (well, with a shirt obviously), but I can also see this being cute as a petticoat under another skirt/dress to add fullness.
