In preparation for last week's Thrift Style Thursday, I was pulling out all the orange and yellow in my closet when I came across this guy - yet another lacy summer top I will probably never wear since I refuse to wear layers in the Texas heat.
It came from a clothes swap last year, and upon further inspection, had a bit of damage to the lace anyway. The tag was missing, but it feels like it could be 100% cotton. Now what could I pair with this coral lace to make a single-layer summer garment?
Oh, I know! How about this little, gauzy cotton, floral dress I thrifted for our Hawaii trip a couple years ago. One of the little plastic rings on the back of the straps broke while we were on vacation, and I had to MacGyver it with a knitting stitch marker from my notions bag. Also, the elastic back panel was beginning to lose its elasticity. With its splashes of coral in the floral pattern, this dress seemed the perfect candidate for my coral lace tank refashion.

Thrift Style Thursday: Sunshine on My Shoulders
It's finally stopped raining in Texas! Things are beginning to dry out a bit, at least around these parts. So Beth's sun-inspired challenge this week was quite well-timed. She asked us to don our best yellow and orange outfits to celebrate the sunshine!
I don't have much yellow clothing, but I do have tons of orange! I seem to have developed a thing for brightly-colored pants this year, and these orange skinnies are the latest acquisition.
To tone down the neon pants, I decided to go a little more neutral on top. Hints of orange and yellow in this paisley patterned t-shirt tie things together nicely though.
And since I'm lacking in yellow garments, I thought I'd pull out all the yellow accessories I could find.
Shirt: clothes swap // Pants: $7 Goodwill // Sandals: $5 Yerdle // Wilson's Leather bag: $5 Yerdle //
Bangle: $3 Target clearance // Yellow rose earrings: Etsy // Ring: $4 Yerdle // Prescription sunnies: $25 Zenni
Do you think the other Thrift Style Thursday ladies are also enjoying sunshine to go with their yellow and orange outfits? Click their pics below to go see their blogs, or the TST logo in the center will take you to our Facebook page.
And don't forget our newest member, Alison!

Sunday Sew-Day: Father's Day
In honor of today's holiday, I thought I would do a little refashion using a men's dress shirt, specifically, this blue gingham Van Heusen shirt that I got for free in a box of someone else's garage sale leftovers. It had a few very faint stains down the button band, so I knew I wanted to turn it around and put them in a less obvious spot.
I also knew I didn't want this to be just another men's shirt refashion. So I grabbed this lace tee, another shining example of a previous refashion that turned out to be less than practical. I just don't like to layer in warm weather. But just look at that lace!

Thrift Style Thursday: Pretty in Pink
This is my week to host Thrift Style Thursday, and I thought I'd ask all the TST ladies to feature one of my favorite colors to wear - pink!
I was never hugely fond of the color as a child. It was girly, and I was not. I liked blues and greens.
One day though, several years ago, I wore a pink sweater to work and received an inordinate number of compliments on it.
Being the skeptic I am, I decided to try an experiment. So I thrifted a second bright pink garment and wore it a few weeks later. Again, tons of compliments.
After the third or fourth repetition I was convinced it wasn't just a coincidence. Apparently, pink suits me.
And thus my love of the color pink developed. I mean, who doesn't like to wear things that draw compliments, right?
Through refashioning, the number of pink garments in my wardrobe has grown substantially. In fact, the pink pants above are the only thing pictured here in its original form.
And knitting hasn't hurt either!
So clearly, I lean toward the bright and bold pinks, but what's your favorite? Rose, fuchsia, carnation, raspberry, champagne, cotton candy, watermelon...
I can't wait to see what hues each of the Thrift Style Thursday ladies chose for today! Click their pics below to go see their blogs, or the TST logo in the center will take you to our Facebook page.

Apologies for the flashback episode this week, but Tropical Storm Bill made outdoor photography totally impossible.
