Pillowcase Dress - All Grown Up

I found a pair of pillowcases at the thrift store for $0.99 each and knew I had to make an adult version of the classic pillowcase case dress. They were this lovely blue and white toile-ish pattern that had a real vintage feel, like it should be hand-painted on a set of china in your grandmother's breakfront. The open ends were trimmed with a navy blue ribbon and ruffles.

I paired them with a white tank I had that had a little lace detail at the collar to further enhance the vintage vibe.

First, I cut both pillowcases open along the side and top seams. Then I joined them together side-by-side to make a wide tube, and created eight large pleats around the top. I was careful though to not make the pleated circumference smaller than my bust. That way, I can still easily slip the dress over my head. I folded over the top edge about an inch, leaving an opening to insert the elastic later, and sewed the skirt to the tank top. Finally, I inserted the elastic and closed up the opening.

Paired with a brown belt and wedges, and I'm ready to go!
