Thrift Style Thursday: Maximum Impact

This week, Megan asked us to pull out our maxi dresses. There's only one problem: I don't own any maxi dresses. I have a maxi skirt, which I wore for a previous TST post, but no dresses. I even went thrifting a couple days ago in an attempt to remedy this wardrobe inadequacy, but nothing I tried on really struck my fancy. So rather than buy something that didn't wow me, I decided to just throw the theme out the window and do my own thing. Sorry, Megan!

I had almost forgotten about this sheer-front tee from the most recent clothes swap. A friend assured me I could get away without anything underneath but a cute bra, but I totally chickened out and threw on a white lacy cami before leaving the house. A lace back, I can do, but a sheer front? A little too racy for me. I'm thinking of adding a lining to the front panel so layering won't be necessary in the future.

My coral skinnies coordinated nicely, and I just happened to have made a necklace last year with exactly the same colors as this top.

The two different blue hues in the shirt reminded me of another Fossil bag my friend gave me recently, which came with a matching wallet.

Top: clothes swap // Cami underneath: $1 thrifted // Jeans: $7 thrifted // Sandals: $5 Yerdle
Bag and wallet: hand-me-down from a friend // Necklace and earrings: me-made // Ring: $4 Yerdle

As I'm sure you are disappointed in my failure to live up to this week's challenge, how about you go get your maximizin' on with the other Thrift Style Thursday ladies? Click their pics below to go see their blogs, or the TST logo in the center will take you to our Facebook page.

And don't forget our newest member, Alison!

  1. The perfectly color co-ordinated photo ! You have GREAT friends or at least friends with great taste -"giving" fossil bags to you ! You also possess a very nice collection of footwear ! Way to Go, Carissa ! And, I have to agree about the sheer top - better to go for good taste than tacky trends.

  2. Sometimes you do what you have to do! I don't think it's a bad thing you went off theme - and I am loving this color combo! Very cute!!

  4. I can't do the bra only with a sheer top either, but I can get away with only a bra cami instead of a full lenght cami. Especially with a patterned sheer. I feel like I get the coverage I need up top, but still nice and cool in the heat without too many layers.

I applaud your choice to go off topic rather than being pressured into something you don't want/need. It's way too easy to buy outfits just for the blog and only end up wearing them that one time. That said, I do enjoy seeing how everyone's different take on a theme. Y'all make me want to join in. :o)

    1. Yeah, maybe if I had a more full-coverage bra it would've worked. You're in Texas too, right? So at least you get me about the heat!

    1. Yeah, I get the whole not-having-to-shave-is-awesome thing, but I'm still unsure of how flattering maxi skirts/dresses are on me. I'm perfectly content though to stick to my just-above-knee skirts or pants!
