Thrift Style Thursday: Thrift Haul

When Zhenya, of BeingZhenya, asked us to show off our favorite (or just recent) thrift scores, I found myself at a loss at first. This challenge was so wide open, I hardly knew where to begin. I started thinking about what I wear most frequently, which items I boast about most often. Honestly, it's not that 99-cent polyester blouse or even the absolutely free yard sale leftovers I've scored on occasion. It's the higher quality items that may have cost a little more, but will last a lot longer.

Over the past year, my shoe collection has grown out of control. I'm trying to pare them down to what I really wear and what I really love, and at the same time, to acquire new shoes only if they are of good quality. So in all of my thrifting adventures lately, I've kept an eye out for good shoes, specifically leather boots since it's winter. And I feel like I've gotten pretty lucky lately.

I found these brown leather Tesori boots for $16 at the Plato's Closet near my house. I don't often shop there since I'm a bit more... mature than their target demographic, but sometimes, I'll pop in if I'm driving by anyway, just to see what there is to see.

The very next day, I was visiting a Goodwill location that I hit every few months, and I found these brown leather riding boots for $8. They fit perfectly, which can be hard to find for people with larger calves. The brand is not clearly marked, but the style name is "Betty".

Just a few weeks ago, on a Super Target clearance rack, I spotted these black leather boots. They had a tag that indicated they were an online-only item that, apparently, someone had returned to this store. Far be it from me to argue with a $30 price on a brand new pair of $60 boots.

These grey suede boots (originally from Target) only cost me $5 shipping from Yerdle.com. Again, they fit perfectly around the calves and are super comfortable.
If you're not familiar with Yerdle, you should definitely check it out. It's an app where you can post stuff you want to give away, and you get credits when someone claims your item. Then you can use those credits to get stuff that other people are giving away. All you pay is the shipping cost. Plus, if you use the link above to sign up, not only will you get $25 in credits to start off, but you and I will each get an extra $10 in credits from my friend referral. The app is currently only available for Apple products, but they have a waiting list for Android users to be notified when they develop a version for your OS.

Not so recently, a couple years ago in fact, I found these fantastic black leather Born boots at Thrift City Richardson. They were brand new with the tags still on them, and I only paid $20!

Also a couple years ago, I picked up another pair on a Target clearance rack. I don't recall how much I spent on these beige suede booties - maybe in the $15 range? - but I've gotten more than my money's worth out them. And they're still going strong!

Over all, I'd say my boot collection is filling out nicely.

Now I need to start working on my sandal collection since that's the type of shoe I wear the majority of the year...

  1. LOVE ALL THE BOOTS!!! Hahaha seriously I am a big sucker when it comes to boots - my own boot collection would rival yours, which is hilarious as boots are so not required for the "weather" we get in SoCal... but anyways, I love boots, and I love all of your awesome boot scores! Great haul, thanks for sharing!! :)

    1. I know! I really wish I had more occasion to wear all my boots. Maybe that's why they last so long when I find good ones...

  2. I so hear you on the calves thing. We have a Canadian shoe/dress company called Le Chateau that makes the BEST boots to fit the more calf-gifted. I have shelled out full price on their leather boots because sometimes you just gotta. But thrifted finds always have a story - and when you find them, you just fall in love. I adore your collection (and I am a little jealous). Great post, Carissa!

    1. I've been looking for some tall, flat, black boots forever now, and I feel like I'm about to resort to full price. Luckily(?), the weather is warming up again, so it may be time to put the boots back up on the top shelf in the closet anyway. So perhaps I can put off the search and have better luck next fall.

  3. Well, I'm officially jealous of your shoe thrifting skills - I think I've only thrifted like, one or two pairs in my life! Also, I hear you on the Platos Closet thing - sometimes they have good stuff, but a lot of times its a little .. young for me lol

    1. Yeah, if bare-midriffs, platform shoes, and sequins are your thing, Plato's is fantastic. Otherwise, it's hit or miss. Luckily, this time was a hit for me!

  4. Carissa, just remember who wears the same size as you, when you start to pare down the boot collection!

  5. I feel the same about Plato's Closet, but I too found a pair of boots there this Winter. Boots are kinda neutral on the age thing once you get past 12 I guess. :o)

    1. That's true, boots are relatively ageless. Good thing for us!
