Thrift Style Thursday: Thrift Haul

When Zhenya, of BeingZhenya, asked us to show off our favorite (or just recent) thrift scores, I found myself at a loss at first. This challenge was so wide open, I hardly knew where to begin. I started thinking about what I wear most frequently, which items I boast about most often. Honestly, it's not that 99-cent polyester blouse or even the absolutely free yard sale leftovers I've scored on occasion. It's the higher quality items that may have cost a little more, but will last a lot longer.

Over the past year, my shoe collection has grown out of control. I'm trying to pare them down to what I really wear and what I really love, and at the same time, to acquire new shoes only if they are of good quality. So in all of my thrifting adventures lately, I've kept an eye out for good shoes, specifically leather boots since it's winter. And I feel like I've gotten pretty lucky lately.

I found these brown leather Tesori boots for $16 at the Plato's Closet near my house. I don't often shop there since I'm a bit more... mature than their target demographic, but sometimes, I'll pop in if I'm driving by anyway, just to see what there is to see.

The very next day, I was visiting a Goodwill location that I hit every few months, and I found these brown leather riding boots for $8. They fit perfectly, which can be hard to find for people with larger calves. The brand is not clearly marked, but the style name is "Betty".

Just a few weeks ago, on a Super Target clearance rack, I spotted these black leather boots. They had a tag that indicated they were an online-only item that, apparently, someone had returned to this store. Far be it from me to argue with a $30 price on a brand new pair of $60 boots.

These grey suede boots (originally from Target) only cost me $5 shipping from Yerdle.com. Again, they fit perfectly around the calves and are super comfortable.
If you're not familiar with Yerdle, you should definitely check it out. It's an app where you can post stuff you want to give away, and you get credits when someone claims your item. Then you can use those credits to get stuff that other people are giving away. All you pay is the shipping cost. Plus, if you use the link above to sign up, not only will you get $25 in credits to start off, but you and I will each get an extra $10 in credits from my friend referral. The app is currently only available for Apple products, but they have a waiting list for Android users to be notified when they develop a version for your OS.

Not so recently, a couple years ago in fact, I found these fantastic black leather Born boots at Thrift City Richardson. They were brand new with the tags still on them, and I only paid $20!

Also a couple years ago, I picked up another pair on a Target clearance rack. I don't recall how much I spent on these beige suede booties - maybe in the $15 range? - but I've gotten more than my money's worth out them. And they're still going strong!

Over all, I'd say my boot collection is filling out nicely.

Now I need to start working on my sandal collection since that's the type of shoe I wear the majority of the year...

Thursday Thrift Score: Coral Wedges

Yesterday did not feel like Thursday at all. This week has been... frustrating at work. Plus I've been a little under the weather the past couple days. And to top it all off, my sewing room is currently out of commission as we attempt to push a small home-improvement project over a minor speed bump.

In the meantime, check out these cute shoes I picked up at Buffalo Exchange last week! Only $13.50 and in pristine condition.

Together with my free denim/chambray shirt, my recently skirtified khaki shorts, and a me-made necklace, they create a nice transitional outfit for this awkward time of year when it's still hot as hell here in Texas while the rest of the northern hemisphere is claiming it's autumn. I'll believe it when I stop insta-sunburning upon exiting a building.

Sunday Sew-Day: Shoe Redo

I thought since my thrift score this week was shoe-related, and since I've never done a shoe refashion, that perhaps it was time to give it a go. I've had these two pairs of Toms wedges for a few years now, originally purchased second-hand at Buffalo Exchange.

They fit great and were in regular rotation until I lost weight and my feet got skinnier as well. Now they slip off my heels with every step. All they really need is an ankle strap, but I feel like taking this a step further. (ha! a step further!)

Thursday Thrift Score: Shoe Love

I fell head over heels (ha! heels!) for today's thrifty treasure: a pair of denim wedge sandals with little cut-outs on the toes and woven fabric around the soles. As soon as I saw them, I knew they had to be mine.

The brand is Volatile, and I'd guess they would have originally been in the $60-80 range. So at $5, these were definitely a bargain. Plus, they looked brand new - the bottom tread was pristine!

And the fact that were big enough for my huge feet has got to be a sign, right?

Yesterday, I paired my new shoes with my J. Crew toothpick jeans, rolled up a couple times, and my refashioned Butterfly Kisses tank top. I thought this was particularly fitting since the toes, with their tiny little straps and cute cut-outs, kind of resemble butterflies. Kismet, eh?

Of course, the shirt's a little wrinkled as these pics were taken at the end of the day, but whatever!

Thrift Score: Red, White, & Blue Jeans

Happy Fourth of July to everyone in the States! We're warming up the grill for lunch and gearing up for fireworks this evening. But first, let's check out the wardrobe for the day, shall we?

Here's another top I snagged at Buffalo Exchange a few weeks back. Its red and white floral print is just darling, and at an original price of $68 from Anthropologie, so I didn't feel too bad spending $14 on it (way more than I would usually pay for a thrifted top, but still).

We've also got my $10 J.Crew toothpick jeans and a pair of $5 bronze wedge sandals (my new favorite shoes!), both from Goodwill.
