Lacy Nightie Makeover

I picked up this little cotton nightie at the thrift store for $3 a little while back. I wasn't overly thrilled with the floral design - pale pink and peach, but blotchy in a way that made it hard to tell if it was an intentional color pattern or just faded weirdly. A plan began to take shape in my mind. I had never dyed anything before, and it was about time I gave it a whirl!

There was some nice lace detail around the neck, and I was excited to see how that would turn out since different fabrics often take dye differently.

So I mixed up my box of dye with some salt and hot hot hot water and in went the nightie. The brown dye completely obscured all the flowers, which was totally fine with me, and the lace didn't absorb quite as much, leaving it a lighter cream color. To complete the project, I chopped off about half the length and gave it a new hem. Tada! New cotton tank top for summer!

A close-up of the lace. See how the lace took less dye and the ribbon under the lace took more dye? I love it!

Plus, it's especially comfy since it was made to be slept in. Bonus!
