Bonus White

Once again, rain has delayed our bonus refashion this week. But not to worry! I've got two different projects to show you to make up for it! Plus, there's still time to vote in the final Refashion Runway challenge - voting is open until midnight tonight. So hurry!

I really make an effort to use up the scraps leftover from my various projects. Sometimes they sit in my scrap pile for quite a while before they see the light of day again. But this time, it didn't take me long at all to decide how to make [re]use of the lining I removed from that lace tee last week.

Refashion Runway Week 6: Winter White - Before & After

So here's the remnant, basically a white tank top, with raw edges at the armholes, collar and shoulder seams, where I snipped it out of the lace.

And the plan is to essentially keep it that way, because a girl can never have too many white tanks. They go with everything!

I safety-pinned the shoulders and tried it on. As you can see it was a tad too big.

To take it in a bit and add some interest, I un-pinned the shoulders and started making pintucks at random intervals. There was no measuring involved. Just fold the shirt along a vertical line and sew as close to the fold as possible, about an eighth of an inch for my case.

I kept folding and sewing, and when I had maybe a half-dozen pintucks, I re-pinned the shoulders and tried it on again. Still a little loose, so I did a few more pintucks. I ended up with thirteen total - eight on the front and five on the back. Then I sewed the shoulder seams together.

And that was that! I left the edges raw, so this was a super simple project. And you could do this with any old tee or tank!

Wait. What's that? Does she have product in her hair!?! No, it can't be!

OMG! It's true!

Okay, before you guys go feeling all special, like I fancied myself up just for the blog, I didn't. These pics happened to be taken after work on a day that the president of our company happened to be visiting our branch. The hair goop is merely a remnant of Dress-Up Carissa. It doesn't happen often, but yes, on occasion, I put a modicum of effort into something not of the crafty variety. Weird, I know.

All right. Now that that's behind us, let's move on to the second bonus white redo, shall we? If you were paying attention, you may have already caught a glimpse. As I mentioned earlier, I like to use every part of the buffalo if possible, so how about some more leftovers from last week's remake? We've got the tops of the wedding dress zipper that were trimmed off when I made the tulle skirt. And we've also got fifteen white satin buttons removed from the wedding dress.

I evened up the ends of the zipper pieces, overlapped the edges with the zipper teeth facing outward, and ran a line of stitches right down the center.

Next I lined up my buttons and used a pencil to mark where each should be attached. Then I got to hand-sewing those babies on!

Once that was finished, I attached two little nubbins of elastic (from the poofy sleeves of the pre-Cinderella dark pink bridesmaid dress).

And finally, I attached the elastic to the other end of the zippers, and my bracelet was complete!

    1. Thanks, JJ! Occasionally, my photographer/husband lucks into a great shot in between grumbling about having to take pictures. :)

  2. Wow the pintucks are so simple, but make such an impact! And that bracelet is fabulous!

  3. I like these! You're so creative, and I also appreciate the "whole buffalo" approach; that's what I try to do with my sewn crafts, even using leftover bits of material to stuff some items. It does mean, however, that it takes forever to get rid of the backlog of garments waiting to be made into other things :)
