No-Sew See-Through Re-Do

Sometimes all you need is a pair of scissors to give a garment a completely different look. Take, for example, this lace tank top I got at the spring clothes swap. It's a little too big, and way too bland with that white underlayer. I mean, can you even tell there's lace on top? Can you even see that it's polka dot lace? Seriously! Polka dots! In lace!

I grabbed my scissors and carefully snipped all the way around the edges to sever the lining (and built-in bra) from the lace.

Once that was gone, despite it still being a bit large, it hung much better on me without the built-in bra stiffening it. I thought about taking in the sides still, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle when it look perfectly fine now.

And with a brightly-colored cami underneath, the lace (the polka dots!) stand out much more.

  1. Nifty! And convenient that taking it apart made it hang better. A cute layer for hot days.

    1. Oh how I envy you Canadians. There's no such thing as layers on hot days in Texas. You wear the bare minimum to still be consider "decent" in public. This will be an autumn garment for sure. ;)

    2. Hah! I thought everything was air-conditioned there so it wouldn't matter! We've just had a month of mostly 30 degree daytime temps (that's 86 Fahrenheit, not what you get, but it's hot for us) and I haven't worn anything but the bare minimum also :)

    3. Oh that's absolutely true. I always keep a cardigan on the back of my chair at work. But even just walking from your car to your office (or wherever), you have to be prepared for the ridiculous temps.

As a matter of fact, we actually had a "cold front" here this past week that brought the temperature *down* to about 86F (from 100+ a few days ago). So I did get a chance to wear this lace tank after all!
