Also, this before picture was about 20 pounds ago.
All I had to do was take up the shoulders a bit. I turned the vest inside out and pinned a few inches down from the original shoulder seams.
Then I used a zig-zag stitch to make sure the knitting doesn't unravel.
I carefully trimmed off the excess as close to the stitching as possible without snipping the threads.
Still plenty loose (it is an XL after all), but I kind of like the blouse-y effect. And now the armholes are much more reasonable.
I love cabled sweaters, too. I think it's even cuter after you modified it.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see this refashion. I too have a knitted vest that I am in the midst of refashioning. However, it is actually hand knit to begin with so I decided to take the shoulders apart and reknit them. The whole this has been taken apart now - just need to do the knitting.

I like the refashion much better. The higher neckline is prettier and take it from someone who knows, it's better to cover up that thin skin from the sun. It ages faster than just about any other skin on your body!
ReplyDeleteOoh, and so cute with the shorts, too!
