Happy St Paddy's Day

To celebrate St Pat's in style, I decided to makeover this linen/cotton skirt I picked up at a clothes swap a few months back. The fabric and color are lovely, but the length is all wrong, and the beads and sequins were all falling off the waistband. Seriously, after trying it on for this before photo, I found at least a dozen beads/sequins on the floor.

First off, let's remove all that bling.

My camera really did not play well with the colors of this skirt and my sofa. Eesh!

Next, I'll chop off some length right at the bottom of the third tier.

And I'll trim the lining at about the same length as the top of the third tier.

Now I'm going to create a ruffled edge by folding the third tier under and sewing the top and bottom together. I'll need to create some small pleats every so often in order to absorb some of the excess fabric.

And of course, I'll rehem the lining.

And tada! No one will be pinching me today!

Also, the before pic was taken months ago when I acquired the dress, which was also about 20 pounds ago. So now it rides a little lower on my hips, rather than being a high-waisted skirt.
