POISON! Coffee Cozy

What better way to keep other people's paws off your caffeine than to imply toxicity? This quick little project is great for using up scraps of wool left over from other projects. Plus, it keeps your coffee warm afterward.

Materials:
Small amounts of 100% wool in black and red
I used Patons Classic Wool Merino (100% wool, 3.53oz/100g, 223yds/204m); 1 skein 00226 Black and Murphy's Knitting Worsted (100% wool, 4oz/113g); 1 skein 1549 Rust
US 10 (6mm) double-pointed needles
Tapestry Needle
Gauge:
16sts by 21rows= 4in (10cm) in stst, pre-felting
18sts by 24rows= 4in (10cm) in stst, post-felting

Finished Size:
4.5in (11cm) tall by 10in (25cm) around, pre-felting
4in (10cm) tall by 9in (23cm) around, post-felting


Pattern:
With red, CO 40 sts and distribute to dpns. Join, being careful not to twist.
Rnd 1: purl with red.
Rnds 2, 21, 22: knit with red.
Rnds 3, 20: join black and knit one rnd.
Rnds 4, 10: [k1Black, k1Red, k5Black, k1Red] around.
Rnds 5, 9: [k2B, k1R, k3B, k1R, k1B] around.
Rnds 6, 8: [k3B, k1R, k1B, k1R, k2B] around.
Rnd 7: [k4B, k1R, k3B] around.
Rnds 11-13, 19: [k3B, k3R, k2B] around.
Rnds 14, 15, 18: [k2B, k5R, k1B] around.
Rnds 16, 17: [k2B, k1R, k1B, k1R, k1B, k1R, k1B] around.
BO purlwise with red. Weave in ends. Handwash in hot water with a little dish soap and agitation until it felts to appropriate size. Rinse thoroughly. Blot with towel to absorb excess moisture. Stretch over a glass or plastic cup. Remove and allow to dry completely before use. Go caffeinate yourself.
