Drawstring Pouches

Materials:
Miscellaneous worsted yarn (great stash-busting project!)
Appropriately-sized double-pointed needles
Tapestry needle
About 2ft (61cm) of ribbon or scrap yarn

Gauge:
Anywhere from 16-24sts = 4in (10cm) in stst, depending on your yarn weight and needle size

Finished Size:
About 4in (10cm) wide by 6in (15cm) tall, depending on your yarn weight and needle size

Pattern:
CO 40 sts, leaving a 16in (41cm) tail for sewing later, and dist to 3 dpns. Join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist. Knit every rnd for about 5in (13cm) of stst. If desired, you can add stripes, color blocks, fair isle or a textured design.
Eyelet Rnd: [k2, k2tog, yo, k1] 8 times.
Ribbing: [k1, p1] around. Rep this rnd 3 more times. BO in patt.
Finishing:
Use CO tail to sew bottom closed. Weave in ends. Weave ribbon in and out of eyelets and tie ends in a bow.

You can easily adjust this pattern to make the pouch larger or smaller, wider or skinnier, longer or shorter. Feel free to tweak it to accommodate what you want to put in it.

  1. Just discovered your blog...love it!! I've been making pouches out of cotton yarn, and sticking a bar of soap on them...eliminates the need for a washcloth. :)

  4. Came accrossed this, printed it out, and set it aside to use. A friend is wanting earrings for Christmas and thought of these! Might have to tweak it for possibly soaps too! Thanks a lot for posting this.

  8. I just found you through About.com and knittingforcharity.org and I just signed up.
    I love these little pouches and will make a couple for my purse to hold small odds and ends like nail clippers, lip salve etc. maybe tissues. I might try to double knit one too to see how it works. Thanks so much for the pattern.

  9. Just because I don't like to sew projects together, I start at the top and work down. When you get to the end I turn it inside out and put the stitches evenly on 2 needles then purl 2 together across, one from each needle, binding off as you go.
